The method involves mounting printing plates on a plate cylinder (7) of a press unit (4). The printing plates are fixed in a cylinder channel by angled-away ends, which trail and lead during a printing operation, respectively. The plate cylinder of the press unit is rotated in a rotational direction opposite to a production direction for mounting the plate cylinder. The plate cylinder is rotated in the production direction for the printing operation. An independent claim is also included for a press unit comprising a gripping element.
