A method for measuring surface roughness of coated steel is provided to improve quality of the coated steel by managing the surface roughness of the coated steel in real time. A method for measuring surface roughness of coated steel includes the steps of: reflecting infrared laser light generated from an infrared laser(110); reflecting visible laser light generated from a visible laser(210); measuring intensities of the infrared and visible laser lights through a linear array CCD(Charge Coupled Device) detector(230); and measuring the surface roughness of the coated steel by calculating average surface roughness by using a reflected light distribution of with respect to the measured infrared laser and calculating a PPI(Peak Per Inch) value by using the reflected light distribution with respect to the intensity of the visible laser light simultaneously.
