A remote pointing device and a pointer movement calculating method thereof are provided to move a pointer by calculating a precise distance from a dual infrared LED(Light Emitting Diode) regardless of ambiguity image/brightness and a shutter speed of a camera, and move the pointer by detecting/reflecting micro or precise movement of the remote LED. A light source(200) such as a dual infrared LED transmits more than two optical signals at different positions. An image sensor module(210) obtains an optical signal image output from the light source. An image signal processor(220) extracts more than two optical signal components from the obtained optical signal image. A light source distance calculator(230) calculates a distance from the light source by using distance information between central points of the extracted optical signal components. A light source movement calculator(240) calculates movement of the light source from the optical signal components extracted from the different optical signal images. A pointer movement calculator(250) calculates the movement of a pointer in a display device based on the calculated distance from the light source and calculated light source movement information.
