A portable terminal and a controlling method thereof are provided to block and connect a ground of the first body and a ground of the second body selectively according to a usage mode of the terminal, thereby obtaining electrostatic discharge performance as improving radio sensitivity performance of an antenna. A first body(10) is equipped with a first ground unit(40). A second body(20) is connected to be opened and closed on the first body, and is equipped with a second ground unit(42). A connection line(44) is installed on the first and second bodies, and connects the first and second ground units. A switch(46) is installed on the connection line, and connects the first ground unit with the second ground unit or blocks the connection. The first ground unit is coated inside a first casing of the first body.
