<p>A compostable packaging material laminate comprises a layer comprising a natural-fibre cloth base 11 and a layer 12 comprising a starch or cellulose derivative. The natural-fibre cloth may be cellulose-based such as cotton or bast fibres e.g. jute, kenaf, hemp, flax, ramie, sisal, or abaca. The starch or cellulose derivative may be a lactic acid derivative, polylactic acid or a biopolymer derived from corn or maize. Compostable adhesives may be used between layers. The packaging material may be metallised e.g. with aluminium and may comprise a printed layer. The packaging material may be in the form of a closeable, sealable or open container and may be formed by extruding and/or laminating a starch or cellulose derivative to the cloth.</p> |
