The invention relates to a process for recovering zinc that comprise the steps of: flotation of zinc sulphide concentrates, milling of zinc sulphide concentrates, atmospheric leaching of zinc sulphide concentrates and purification of the solution obtained in the previous step. The leaching step is carried out in the presence of ferric ions and copper ions, and the acidity of the sulfuric acid leachant is controlled involving low concentration values in a range of preferably 5 to 20 g/l.
