A hybrid telemetry system 702 for passing signals between a surface control unit (4, Fig. 10) and a downhole tool 15, such as a drill bit, a is provided for the purposes of providing redundancy to an existing telemetry system or bypassing portions of existing systems in the event of failure. The downhole tool 30a is deployed via a drill string 749 into a wellbore penetrating a subterranean formation. The telemetry system 702 includes an uphole connector 738, a downhole connector 734, and a cable operatively 708 connecting the uphole and downhole connectors. The uphole connector is operatively connectable to a drill string telemetry system 742 for communication therewith. The downhole connector is operatively connectable to the downhole tool 15 for communication therewith. The uphole connector is connected with a drill string connector 741 of a telemetry adaptor 745a. |
