A vessel 1 includes an implement 6 located in a fluid receiving space 2 in the vessel. An enclosing device 10 is also present and forms and enclosed space around the implement 6. The enclosing device 10 can be opened to allow fluid into the space around the implement 6 or closed to prevent fluid flowing into said enclosed space. The vessel 1 can be a separating tank or a pipe and can be used to separate drilling fluids. The implement 6 can be a measuring or detecting instrument, a valve, a pump, a motor or an electrostatic device. The enclosing device 10 can be in the form of a telescopically extending cylinder or bellows. Also claimed are methods for calibrating the implement 6 when it is a measuring or detecting instrument and for cleaning, removing and inserting the implement 6. |
