A topical formulation comprising 1 to 20 weight percentage ascorbic acid, 1 to 10 weight percentage of an amino acid, either tyrosine or phenylalanine, 0.5 to 5 weight percentage of a non toxic zinc salt and 0.01 to 20 weight percentage alkyl lactate wherein the alkyl group of said lactate has 2 to 12 carbon atoms, and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier. Alternatively the topical formulation may comprise as the active agent 0.01 to 5 weight percentage canosic acid or 0.01 to 2 weight percentage of a polyphenolic antioxidant such as proanthocyanidin, chlorogenic acid, quinic acid or ferulic acid. The alkyl lactate may be ethyl lactate, isoamyl lactate or a mixture of these two. The topical formulation may further comprise idebenone, palmitoyl pentapeptide. A method of rejuvenating human skin affected by aging is also claimed. |
