A rubbing apparatus and a rubbing method are provided to reduce scratch and alignment non-uniform caused by rubbing cloth, thereby improving black luminance and contrast ratio. In a table(126), a substrate(121) is mounted. A first rubbing roll(130) is wound with first rubbing cloth(135) and rubs the substrate. A second rubbing roll(130') trails the first rubbing roll and wound with second rubbing cloth(135') to rub the substrate. At least one of the first rubbing cloth and the second rubbing cloth is nano rubbing cloth. In the first and second rubbing rolls, supports(137,137') each connected to a central shaft are formed to fix the two rubbing rolls to a main body(131). The nano rubbing cloth is wound around at least one of first and second rubbing roll main bodies(133,133'). |
