The system comprises dehydration column using azeotropic distillation to recover the acetic acid in conjunction with a condenser system to recover energy. The column operates a dehydration pressure of 1.2 or higher in kilogram per square centimeter head of the column. The condenser system is a steam generator that condenses the vapor concentrated acetic acid to generate low-pressure steam from 0.6 to 250 kilogram per square centimeter. An independent claim is also included for a distillation method for recovery of acetic acid during the production of terephthalic acid.
