A hybrid type optical disk drive device and a driving method thereof are provided to increase reliability of the device by driving first and second drive units independently. A hybrid type optical disk drive device(200) comprises sorts drive units(220a,220b) rotating optical disks and recording or playing data according to data format. The first drive unit corresponds to the optical disk of a first group, and the second drive unit corresponds to the optical disk of a second group. The first drive unit has a first spindle motor(221a), a first optical pickup(222a), and a first loading part(210a). The second drive unit has a second spindle motor(221b), a second optical pickup(222b), and a second loading part(210b).
