A device and a method for connecting power are provided to use a usual media power connection line for a sub battery connection line to compatibly use a sub battery to a system made by other makers, and use a card power line of used media for the sub battery line by recognizing the inserted sub battery when the sub battery is inserted. A connector(41) is formed on a main board(40). An Express card type sub battery is inserted into a PCI(Peripheral Component Interconnect)-Express slot. A reserved pin of the PCI-Express slot detects that the sub battery is inserted into the PCI-Express slot. The sub battery supplies power to a system by replacing A14/A15 power pins(43) of V3S_CARD, which is applied to a card, with VPOWER-V3S power.
