A disk drive apparatus and a disk printing method are provided to relate a disk reference position with a pulse signal and to obtain position information of the optical disk so as to check an absolute position of the disk type recording medium and carry out additional printing on a label surface. A disk drive apparatus(1) includes a spindle motor(2), an optical pickup(3), a print head(4), an encoder(5), a signal processor(6), and a control part(7). The encoder generates a pulse signal based on the rotation of the spindle motor. The signal processor generates a specific address signal of generating pulse when a specific address of the optical disk is reproduced. The control part carries out a disk process of relating a disk reference position where the specific address is recorded with the pulse signal. The position information of the optical disk is obtained, using the pulse signal.
