<p>A device for inputting handwritten characters are provided to enable a user to correct the handwritten characters without any key input operation even if the user wants to correct the handwritten characters recognized and displayed on a display unit. A handwritten character input unit(16) includes a touch position detector and a display device in one body. A character recognizer recognizes handwritten characters written by using the handwritten character input unit. A recognized character display unit displays recognized handwritten characters on a display unit(17). A corrected character pointing unit enables a user to point the displayed characters to be corrected by a touch operation of the user on the handwritten character input unit. A candidate character display unit displays candidate characters for the pointed character. A character corrector replaces the pointed character with the candidate character selected by the touch operation of the user on the handwritten character input unit. A memory(22) stores not only a system program which supervises the overall operation of an electronic dictionary device(10) and a communication program for data communication with each Web server(30) and a user personal computer on the Internet via a transfer control unit(25) but also a dictionary search program(22a) for controlling the overall search process on the basis of dictionary data(22c) and a character recognition program(22b) for recognizing handwritten characters displayed on the handwriting input unit.</p> |
