A surface acoustic wave (SAW) identification tag and a method of communicating surface acoustic wave identification tag information is disclosed. The method comprises: (a) detecting a signal emanating from an electronic device operating within a SAW tag frequency band, (b) identifying a null period in a transmission pattern in the signal, and (c) effecting communication of the information during the null period.
