A filter medium [100] for strainers [10] used in the emergency sump [12] of a nuclear power plant ECCS. The filter medium [100] is employed with double wall, concentric tube type strainer modules [16]. The filter medium [100] is preferably constructed of a woven or knitted stainless steel wire material and is shaped in a cylinder so that it can be inserted between an external [28] and an internal strainer [30] of a double wall, concentric tube type strainer [16] in such a manner that water that passes through the strainer [16] must pass through and be filtered by the filter medium [100] before the water can be pumped to the reactor core [14]. The filter medium [100] is inserted through the bottom [24] of the strainer module [16] and is held in place by an x-shaped retainer [106]. |
