The method involves receiving an electric signal measured based on capacity variation at terminals of capacitive sensors (105) during positioning of a conductive object e.g. user's finger, against a surface of a control device. Signals from the sensors are processed by a processing unit (120) to determine an estimation of position of the object based on the signals, and to determine a control signal based on the position, where the position takes a number of values higher than the number of sensors. An independent claim is also included for a control device comprising capacitive sensors.
