A reclining adjuster in which occurrence of abnormal noise can be securely prevented by reducing the backlash of a seat back when it is locked and the clearance of a worm in a thrust direction. When the seat back is stopped at a predetermined inclination angle, a movable bearing (12) is so pressed by cams (21, 22) being pressing members as to approach a worm wheel (5). A ball (14) disposed in the recessed part (12a) of the movable bearing (12) is slightly moved along the inner surface of the recessed part (12a) to push the worm (4) to a worm wheel (5) side and simultaneously to a fixed bearing (11) side, and a latch member (23) being an engagement member is engaged with the worm (4) to stop the rotation of the worm (4) and securely maintain the stopped state. The movable bearing (12) is moved to the worm wheel (5) side. Therefore, as compared with a structure in which a ball is supported by a fixed bearing only, the movable range of the ball is substantially increased, and the range of the displacement of the worm (4) when the worm is pressed by the ball is substantially increased. |
