PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce operation force necessary for sliding a reverse idler gear in a reverse shift device for a transmission. SOLUTION: A plurality of pairs of transmission gears 15a, 15b and 16a, 16b provided on a pair of shafts 11, 12 parallel to each other are switched by a sleeve 19 provided on an output shaft 12 and having synchromesh mechanisms 21, 22. A reverse input gear 25 is provided on an input shaft 11, and a reverse output gear 26 is formed on an outer periphery of the sleeve. The reverse idler gear 27 axially slidably provided on a reverse shaft 13 parallel to both shafts is reciprocated between an engagement position engaged with both reverse gears 25, 26 and a disengagement position removed from both reverse gears. The reverse idler gear is constituted so as to be previously engaged with the reverse output gear when moved from the disengagement position to the engagement position. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
