摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an air quantity estimation device for an internal combustion engine capable of reducing calculation load while keeping estimation accuracy of cylinder air quantity as high as possible. SOLUTION: The estimation devise estimates cylinder air quantity KL with using a first air model M10 constructed under an assumption that thermal energy (thermal transmission energy) transmitted from a wall surface of an intake passage to air in the intake passage is zero when temperature Tim, Tst of wall surfaces of the intake passage is low and throttle valve opening TAe is large (when conditions of quantity of operation state are satisfied). On the other hand, cylinder air quantity KL is estimated by estimating heat transfer energy and applying the estimated heat transfer energy to a second air model M20 constructed based on the energy conservation law with considering heat transfer energy. As the result, calculation load can be reduced with keeping estimation accuracy of cylinder air quantity KL when the conditions of quantity of operation state are satisfied.
