The method involves detecting the manner of driving of the driver of the vehicle (10) via at least one control input and determining a driver type from it. It involves diagnosis or regeneration of a component (32) of the fuel supply system (14) depending on the determined driver type. A criterion for the implementation is determined or selected depending o the determined river type. Independent claims are also included for the following: (A) a computer program for implementing the inventive method (B) and an electrical storage medium for a control and/or regulating device for an internal combustion engine.
