A fuel pump is provided to connect leakage grooves with a gas storage through a line to flow inert gas or air to the grooves and to preclude the cutoff oil from being mixed with the fuel. A fuel pump(10) includes a pump piston(13) and leakage grooves(15,16,18). The pump piston is guided in a pump cylinder(11). The leakage grooves are formed at a recess(12) of the pump cylinder. The leakage fuel generated between the pump cylinder and the pump piston is exhausted through the leakage grooves. Inert gas or air is provided to the grooves. The grooves are connected to a gas storage with a line(19).
