An apparatus and a method for protecting a measurement probe of a CNC(Computer Numerical Control) are provided to prevent a touch probe, which makes contact with a workpiece, from moving forward during a manual operation. An apparatus protecting a measurement probe comprises a touch probe(100) generating an electric signal, a touch probe signal detection unit(200) for checking an on/off state of the touch probe, a PMC operation unit(300) for performing an internal operation to stop the movement of a transfer shaft when the touch probe makes contact with a workpiece, a signal transmission unit(400) for outputting shaft movement information to the PMC operation unit, and a CNC motion command unit(500). The CNC motion command unit blocks the movement in the axial direction when the touch probe makes contact with the workpiece.
