<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an inexpensive high voltage power supply which can be miniaturized without need of a component of high breakdown voltage. <P>SOLUTION: The high voltage power supply includes a rectifier circuit 11 rectifying AC voltage of an AC power supply E, a smoothing circuit 13 smoothing rectification voltage output from the rectifier circuit 11, a voltage booster circuit 20 boosting voltage charged in the smoothing capacitor 14 of the smoothing circuit 13 to DC high voltage and outputting it. The voltage booster circuit 20 has an invertor circuit 21 interrupting voltage of the smoothing capacitor 14 and making pulse current flow to a primary side of a transformer 22. Pulse width of pulse current is controlled so that the DC high voltage can be output in a wide range from low voltage to high voltage. A step-down chopper reducing rectification voltage output from the rectifier circuit is arranged.
