<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently reduce an influence due to error data access for which high bandwidth is required, generated in pseudo gradation processing using an error diffusion method is effectively reduced and to perform image formation control having compatibility between rapidity and high definition. <P>SOLUTION: Image data input in an image formation engine is generated based on input image information input from an input data transfer part 201. In that case, a generation amount of error data generated as intermediate data in the pseudo gradation processing of a multi-valued error diffusion processing part 207 is calculated according to the resolution, the number of gradations, raster length and the number of colors capable of being recorded by the image formation engine, etc. In response to this calculation result, distribution control for selecting a RAM 104 and an image processing RAM 113 as a temporary storage destination of the intermediate data input/output by an image processing means is performed.
