<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of ensuring stable image formation over a long period by suppressing image quality degradation resulting from fogging of reversed toner. <P>SOLUTION: The value of a current flowing in a charging auxiliary part during an image non-formation period such as a pre-rotation process, post-rotation process, or inter-paper process of the image forming apparatus is detected. The presence or absence of fog is determined according to the result of the detection. If it is determined that fog has occurred, a potential difference between a photoreceptor and a developing roller is made small to suppress the fog.
