PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a structure of connecting optical fibers in which the connection state of the optical fibers is simply and certainly determined, and a method of connecting optical fibers. SOLUTION: The connecting structure A of the optical fibers is provided with an optical connector 1 which optically connects the optical fibers 2 and 4 by holding the connection ends 2a and 4a of the pair of the optical fibers in a state their optical axes O1 and O2 are coaxially arranged by butting the connecting ends 2a and 4a of the pair of the optical fibers 2 and 4. A light guide part 10 to guide a portion of light S transmitted from one optical fiber 2 to the other optical fiber 4 to the outside when the optical fibers 2 and 4 are optically connected by coaxially arranging the optical axes O1 and O2 of the optical fibers is provided on the optical path O2 of the other optical fiber 4.
