PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To judge whether channel presetting is needed while taking the current reception state of a television signal into consideration even in the case of a failure in acquiring position information, and to process a procedure for channel presetting more accurately on an interactive basis. SOLUTION: If a position information acquiring unit 28 fails to acquire current position information when a television receiver is powered on, a TV-side microcomputer 21 confirms whether a television signal can be received, and displays a confirmation message letting a user confirm whether manual channel presetting is performed at a display unit 13 if it is judged that the television signal can not be received, thereby carrying out channel presetting when the user inputs area information in response to the message.
