PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To more effectively alleviate impact force given to a shock absorber, to further enhance life of the shock absorber, and to retain fitting property of the shock absorber to a vehicle or the like to a sufficient degree by avoiding enlargement in size of the shock absorber. SOLUTION: The shock absorber 1 is provided with a cylinder tube 2; a piston 18 fitted to the cylinder tube 2 so as to become slidable in an axial direction and partitioning the inside of the cylinder tube 2 to first and second oil chambers 19, 20; a piston rod 21 extending from the piston 18 to the outside of the cylinder tube 2; and attenuation force generation parts 26, 30 capable of generating the attenuation force by flowing an operation oil 14 between the first and second oil chambers 19, 20. Cavities 38, 69 are formed inside of at least one member of the cylinder tube 2 and the piston rods 21, 56.
