PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a benzofluorene derivative under a mild condition in high efficiency. SOLUTION: The benzofluorene derivative is produced by the following steps 1 to 3: (1) a step to react a boronic acid derivative with a naphthalene derivative in the presence of a transition metal catalyst and a base to obtain a phenylnaphthalene derivative, (2) a step to react the phenylnaphthalene derivative with a Grignard reagent to obtain a tertiary alcohol derivative, and (3) a step to cyclize the tertiary alcohol derivative in the presence of an acid catalyst.
