PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a composite grinding wheel which prevents occurrence of crack and chipping of an abrasive grain layer easily by filling a recessed part opened on a grinding face of the abrasive grain layer with a brittle material, and improves the function for discharging chips after grinding. SOLUTION: This grinding wheel 10 is constituted by sticking a plurality of grindstone chips having the abrasive grain layer 12 including ultra-abrasive grains to a core mounted on a grinding wheel spindle supported on a wheel spindle stock of a grinding machine to rotate and to be driven around an axial line and making a workpiece supported on a workpiece supporting device of the grinding machine to rotate and to be driven, abut on the grinding face 15 formed on the abrasive grain layer at a grinding point for grinding. A plurality of recessed parts 20 opened on the grinding face are formed in the abrasive grain layer and are filled with the brittle material 50 having high porosity or a vitrified grindstone material having high porosity.
