摘要 <p>It is possible to provide a liquid crystal display element using a monostable ferroelectric liquid crystal capable of controlling the direction of spontaneous polarization of the ferroelectric liquid crystal. A first electrode layer and an oblique deposition orientation film are layered in this order on a first base so as to constitute a first orientation processing substrate. A second electrode layer, a reactive liquid crystal orientation film, and a fixed liquid crystal layer are layered in this order on a second base so as to constitute a second orientation processing substrate. The liquid crystal display element includes a ferroelectric liquid crystal sandwiched between the oblique deposition orientation film and the fixed liquid crystal layer. When such a voltage is applied that the ferroelectric liquid crystal is monostable and the second electrode layer is negative, the direction of molecules of the ferroelectric liquid crystal is changed in parallel to the first orientation processing substrate surface by twice as much as the tilt angle of the ferroelectric liquid crystal.</p>
