Production of a printed image on a sheet of paper comprises feeding sheets of a printed material to a sheet-fed printing machine, subjecting the sheets to a working step to prepare or directly produce a changed surface structure, applying adhesive to the changed surface of the sheets, applying a foil image to the pre-treated sheet and post-treating. An independent claim is also included for a device for carrying out the above process. Preferred Features: A base coating is applied using lacquer modules before applying the foil image. A medium having an adhering force greater than the adhesive is used as the base coating.
