PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus that can shorten the time up to dark current correction, reduce the power consumption, and perform the dark current correction with high precision in a state wherein high picture quality is requested. SOLUTION: The imaging apparatus includes a solid-state imaging element 5 having a photoelectric converting element array of a plurality of photoelectric converting elements arrayed vertically on a semiconductor substrate surface and a vertical charge transfer path corresponding to the photoelectric converting element array; an imaging element driver 10 which drives the imaging element for high-sensitivity photography in a still picture photographic mode so that charge-stored packets where electric charges generated by the respective photoelectric converting elements are stored and empty packets are formed in respective vertical charge transfer paths while made to correspond to each other and the electric charges in the charge-stored packets and dark electric charges stored in the empty packets are transferred without being mixed to output an imaging signal corresponding to the electric charges and a dark current signal corresponding to the dark electric charges; and a digital signal processing unit 17 which corrects dark current components of the imaging signal obtained by this driving by using the dark current signal corresponding to the imaging signal.
