A roll drive (2) for driving a drive roller (12) of a conveying system comprises a stator (4) which is arranged on a shaft (4) and has a number of windings (10) for generating a magnetic field, and a rotor (8) which is arranged around the stator (6) and can be connected to a roller tube (14) of the drive roller (12). A thermally conducting element (16) is provided on the end side of the stator (6) for satisfactory dissipation of the heat which is produced during operation of the roll drive (2).
