The invention relates to radioprotectors of formula (I), processes for th eir preparation and their use in protecting biological materials from radiat ion damage. In diagnostic and therapeutic radiology, particularly in cancer radiotherapy, the radioprotectors of the present invention may be used to pr otect certain normal tissues or structures from radiation damage. The radiop rotectors of formula (I) may also have uses in decreasing the effects of irr adiation in non-medical scenarios, both civil and military.
