PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a base for breeding coral, which is capable of making coral larvae adhere efficiently at low cost and effect breeding of coral, and to provide a method of breeding coral. SOLUTION: The base for breeding coral 10' includes at least two planar parts 18, separated from each other and a support member 11 for supporting the planar parts. The planar parts are positioned, in a manner of facilitating the flow of seawater into the gap 19a, between the planar parts and making it less apt to flow out of the gap, when the water flow is reversed, as well as, of forming a stagnation part 18c and a light-shielding part in at least a part of the space between the planar parts.
