PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To generate a PWM signal for controlling a backlight only with image data and an image transfer clock signal and to keep the luminance of the backlight constant even when the resolution of the image data is changed. SOLUTION: The resolution of image data is recognized by an image transfer clock signal. The frequency of the image transfer clock signal is divided into a frequency of a PWM signal according to the ratio of the resolution of the image data to that of a display panel. The duty ratio of the PWM signal is adjusted according to the luminance of the image data. In parallel with the generation of the PWM signal, enlarged image data is displayed.
