[PROBLEMS] To achieve a natural user interface for reading sentences displayed by an electronic book, or the like. [MEANS FOR SOLVING PROBLEMS] A device which displays characters, figures, or the like, on a display surface fixed substantially continuously to the side face of a columnar or prismatic housing, and uses a rotation angle detector incorporated in the device for determining the range of the display surface normally visible by an observer. Rewriting of the display surface is performed on the side which is judged invisible from the observer (user) based on the measurements of the angle detector. Display content is rewritten depending on an angle variation incident to rotary operation performed as reading of displayed characters, figures, or the like, progresses, thus presenting a continuous display when viewed from the observer.
