The object of providing a device which makes it possible for the natural sight of a partially sighted person to be restored or supported as realistic ally as possible by means of a visual aid or visual prosthesis is achieved i n the case of the visual aid according to the invention by virtue of the fac t that over and above the pure acquisition of a two-dimensional image, addit ional information is included in the image processing. For this purpose, a v isual aid system is proposed which, during the reproduction of the processed image, visualizes additional items of information with regard to the spatia l position and/or specific attributes of objects in the acquired image which are associated with objects in the acquired image. The present invention th us affords the advantage that a three-dimensional image of the current surro undings of the user can be acquired owing to the fact that the image visuali zed to the user by the visual aid system according to the invention comprise s additional information for example about the relative distance of the obje cts contained in the image and a depth-selective representation of the acqui red image can thus be achieved.
