PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a network management system for easily identifying a device, and for improving the operability of the utility of a manager. SOLUTION: This network management system is provided with devices 201 to 204 and a management device 101 connected through a network to the devices 201 to 204. The management device 101 is communicatively connected to the devices by SNMPv1, SNMPv3 and SLP, and when the SNMPv1 is available, device information is acquired from the device by the SNMPv1. When the SNMPv1 is not available, and the SNMPv3 is available, and an SNMPv3 password is registered, device information is acquired from the SNMPv3, and when the SNMPv1 is not available, and the SNMPv3 is available, and the SNMPv3 password is not registered, device basic information is acquired from the device by an SLP.
