An L-amino acid can be produced by culturing a microbial cell in a culture medium to produce and accumulate the L-amino acid in the culture medium or the microbial cell and then collecting the L-amino acid from the culture medium or the microbial cell, wherein the microbial cell is engineered as to have an ability of producing the L-amino acid and also have a reduced succinate dehydrogenase activity and a reduced a-ketoglutarate dehydrogenase activity.
