<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface light emitting device, and a display device including the same, capable of reducing the brightness variations. <P>SOLUTION: The surface light emitting device 1 has, on a reflecting plate 12, a plurality of light sources 11, a light source image-separating sheet 10, and a diffusing sheet 13 in this order. The light source image-separating sheet 10 has on a surface thereof two kinds of protrusions 10a, 10b trapezoidal in cross-sections with different base angles, and these protrusions are alternately and repeatedly arranged. The light source image-separating sheet 10 divides a luminous flux emitted from the light source 11, into plural fluxes to form a plurality of light source images 14.
