PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide heat generating nanoparticles capable of generating heat efficiently when used in thermotherapy for rapidly heating only cancerous tissues so as to kill them. SOLUTION: The heat generating nanoparticles 1 have domain magnetization of≥200 kA/m and≤2,000 kA/m due to an alloy containing two or more transition metal elements in which the alloy comprises iron and platinum and contains≥25 atom% and≤75 atom% iron, have an average particle size of≥2 nm and≤25 nm, and have its surface coated with a protection layer 2 made of an organic material.
