PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform the work with a stable attitude while hanging a load from a live mast. SOLUTION: The safety device is equipped with the live mast 4 turnably pivoted on a main frame 200 in the fore-and-aft direction of the crane at the rear part of a boom 3 and supporting the rope 15 for boom derricking; a derricking drum 9 for derricking a live mast 4 by winding and delivering the rope 15 for boom derricking; a hanging means 17 for hanging the load from the live mast 4; load detecting means 32, 33 for detecting the load applied to the mast member 4 when working for lifting and lowering the hanged load 18 hanged the hanging means 17 by driving the derricking drum 9; a setting means 30 for setting a limit value of the load acting on the live mast 4 beforehand; and limit means 30, 48 for limiting the operation of the derricking drum 9 so that the load detected by the load detecting means 32, 33 does not exceed the limit value.
