PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for synthesizing anα,β-unsaturated ketone bearing a hydroxy group on itsγ-site. SOLUTION: As a result of zealously studying the method for synthesizing anα,β-unsaturated ketone bearing a hydroxy group on itsγ-site represented by formula (1): -COCH=CHCHOH-, it has been found that the problem can be solved by reacting a carboxylic acid and a basic substance with an epoxy-bearing compound represented by formula (2): -COCH<SB>2</SB>-epoxy-.
