Dibasic organic di-percarboxylic acids are made by reacting an organic dicarboxylic acid or anhydride with concentrated hydrogen peroxide in the presence of boron trifluoride or boron trifluoride monohydrate. Preferably at least two mols, advantageously more than 2.5 mols, of hydrogen peroxide are used to 1 mol of acid. Solutions containing at least 90% by weight of H2O2 and 1.2 to 2.5 mols of boron trifluoride to 1 mol of acid are preferred. Concentrated sulphuric acid may be added for better homogenisation. Examples describe the preparation of di-persuccinic acid, di-peradipic acid, di-perglutaric acid and di-persebacic acid. Specification 791,875 is referred to. |
