PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for production of leathery sheet-like product which is improved in feeling, durability, and a monotonous color tone and has a suitable level of elongation rate in a longitudinal direction in the leathery sheet-product substantially composed of a fiber material in no use of organic solvent and has a small environmental loading. SOLUTION: Staples of composite fibers of 1 to 8 dtex which can generate ultra fine fibers having an average fiber fineness of 0.001 to 0.5 dtex and has 70 to 99 wt.% of component for forming the ultrafine fibers are used to produce a staple fiber nonwoven fabric having a stress of 200 to 400 N/cm<SP>2</SP>at 10% elongation in a length direction by the needle punching method, then the following step (1) and then the step (2) are carried out to produce the leathery sheet-like product: (1) a staple fiber nonwoven fabric (b) is expanded, impregnated with an aqueous liquid and heat-treated to eluate a sea component in the nonwoven fabric (b) so that the elongation in the length direction may be set less than 10% to form the ultrafine fiber nonwoven fabric composed of substantially fibers; (2) the resultant ultra fine fiber nonwoven fabric is treated with a high-speed fluid having a fluid pressure of more than 10 MPa.
