<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively prevent occurrence of vertical stripes in contact charging of an image carrier by constant current control using a charging brush and a charging roller. <P>SOLUTION: A charging brush current Ia<SB>1</SB>(μA) and a charging roller current Ia<SB>2</SB>(μA) are set so as to satisfy ¾Ia<SB>1</SB>¾/5 < ¾Ia<SB>2</SB>¾. Consequently, flowing of unnecessary amount of the charging brush current Ia<SB>1</SB>(μA) can be suppressed. Thereby film reduction on the photosensitive layer 2a of the image carrier 2 which is caused by the flowing of unnecessary amount of the charging brush current Ia<SB>1</SB>(μA) can be suppressed. Thus, the absolute value of potential on the surface of the photosensitive layer 2a of the image carrier 2 can be maintained at a value higher than the absolute value of image writing potential and stable and effective charging can be achieved. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT |
